"Most brands call their nuts 'smoked' because they sprayed them with liquid smoke flavoring. We call ours smoked because we actually smoked them — for 8 to 12 hours over real wood. There's a difference. You can taste it."

How It Started

It started with a bag of disappointment. Our founder Marcus Reed picked up a highly-rated bag of "artisan smoked almonds" at a Portland specialty grocery store in the summer of 2019. The smell was right. The packaging was beautiful. The price said premium. But one bite in, he could taste it — that flat, chemical whisper of liquid smoke flavoring. Not wood. Not fire. Not craft.

That night, he pulled his old offset smoker into the backyard, ordered five pounds of Grade A California almonds, and started experimenting. By 3am, after a 9-hour smoke over Pacific Northwest alder, he had something different. Something real. His neighbors could smell it from two houses down. By the following weekend, he'd given away 40 bags and had 20 orders via text message.
